{"id":79824,"date":"2016-09-13T07:17:43","date_gmt":"2016-09-13T12:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=79824"},"modified":"2016-09-13T07:17:43","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T12:17:43","slug":"latta-authors-nuke-energy-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/09\/13\/latta-authors-nuke-energy-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"Latta authors nuke energy legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. &#8212;\u00a0Bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) to modernize the nation\u2019s nuclear technology was approved by the U.S House of Representatives\u00a0on Monday\u00a0evening.<\/p>\n<p>The bill,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/114\/bills\/hr4979\/BILLS-114hr4979ih.pdf\">H.R. 4979<\/a>, the Advanced Nuclear Technology Development Act, requires the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to establish a framework for issuing licenses for advanced nuclear reactor technology and requires the NRC to submit a schedule for the implementation of the framework by 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 50 companies have invested over $1 billion in nuclear power technology, but the lack of a regulatory framework to\u00a0license\u00a0this technology threatens continued investment and implementation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNuclear power must play a\u00a0significant role in American energy policy for our nation to become truly energy secure, and the future of the nuclear industry needs to start now,\u201d\u00a0said Latta.\u00a0\u201cIt is imperative that we develop the right regulatory framework so advanced nuclear technologies can be\u00a0developed,\u00a0licensed, and constructed here in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Advanced Nuclear Technology Development Act will help the U.S. remain a leader in the nuclear industry and continue to develop clean, reliable power,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Latta spoke on the floor in favor of the legislation.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DnbzDUM-iVM&amp;feature=youtu.be\">Video is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Submitted information WASHINGTON, D.C. &#8212;\u00a0Bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) to modernize the nation\u2019s nuclear technology was approved by the U.S House of Representatives\u00a0on Monday\u00a0evening.
