After watching the first Presidential debate last night, it occurred to me that this is a year for The Messiah<\/em>.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure what prompted me, but it certainly came to me during the debate.\u00a0 Hmmm?!!<\/p>\n

Okay, my political comment aside now, we are announcing the date for our biennial performance of Handel\u2019s Messiah<\/em> in Van Wert.\u00a0 It will be Sunday night, December 11, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church.\u00a0 The orchestra and soloists are just about in place, so now we just need a chorus.\u00a0 If you have never sung in our Messiah<\/em>, you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re missing.\u00a0 It is a very redeemable experience.<\/p>\n

I invite you to join our chorus of volunteer singers.\u00a0 We have many fine singers who offer their talents as well as many common voices who want to join and make theirs sound better.\u00a0 It will happen.\u00a0 There are many who can testify to it.\u00a0Singing Messiah<\/em> is not \u201cMary had a little Lamb,\u201d but somehow we put together a very inspirational performance.\u00a0 I hope you will consider joining the chorus.<\/p>\n

The rehearsal schedule is as follows: Saturday, November 5; Sundays: November 13, 20, 27; December 4 and 11.\u00a0All rehearsals are 3-5 p.m. and are held in the First UM Church sanctuary.\u00a0Songbooks are available, although some have their own copies.\u00a0Singing with friends and family members is always a popular activity at the Christmas season.<\/p>\n

Invite a friend and share the rehearsal schedule with veteran and first-time singers.\u00a0We can usually accommodate as many as 75 singers.\u00a0It\u2019s an exciting experience to sing with a large choir, a chamber orchestra, and professional soloists.\u00a0I hope you will give it a try and see for yourself what a rewarding experience it is.<\/p>\n

This weekend is a busy one in Van Wert.\u00a0Among the most fun events will be \u201cHappy Days Live!\u201d at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center.\u00a0It features Anson Williams and Donnie Most, the lovable Potsie and Ralph Malph of TV\u2019s \u201cHappy Days\u201d show from the 1970s and \u201880s.<\/p>\n

The show will be filled with never before seen clips from the famous TV show as well as fun commentary from two of its biggest stars.\u00a0 What you might not realize is that both Anson and Ralph are very good singers.\u00a0 They will incorporate music from the \u201850s and \u201860s, the setting for \u201cHappy Days\u201d.\u00a0 Backed up by a band of NY musicians, it will be an exciting element to the show.<\/p>\n

Tickets can be purchased at the box office the night of the show.\u00a0 That\u2019s this Saturday, October 1, beginning at 7:30 p.m.\u00a0Make your day a Happy Day at the Niswonger!<\/p>\n
