During Children’s Book Week at St. Mary of the Assumption School, three
\nlocal authors visited the classrooms. The authors were Pam and Dennis Smith
\nand Lisa Eichler. Pam and Dennis have recently written a book called “Tickle
\nme Safe,” a story about two of our students, Risa and Emma Pollock. Several
\nyears ago, Emma woke to the sound of the smoke detector in her house. Emma
\ntickled Risa’s feet in order to wake her up and then proceeded to awaken their
\nparents. Emma’s quick thinking saved the family from the fire.\u00a0 The Smiths have also written another book called “Dimitri’s Fleas.”<\/p>\n

Fourth grade students dressed as famous people.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Fourth grade students dressed as famous people from Ohio. The students researched each person and wrote a report and “Powerpoint” about that person. They then made an oral presentation which was recorded so they could critique themselves. Students dressed in character and visited other classrooms.<\/p>\n

Praying the Rosary.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On Tuesday, May 10, the staff and students of St. Mary of the Assumption
\nSchool met at the Prayer Garden to pray the Rosary, one of the traditional
\nprayers of the church. This prayer helps us to think about the life of
\nChrist and to pattern our lives after his. A parishioner, Mrs. Marge Greve, made rosaries for each student and teacher.<\/p>\n

Zach Dealey, Mrs. Pollock, Nathan Bidlack, Jill Gemmer, Kourtney Kohnen, Trey Laudick, and Hannah Say.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Common Sense was the Life Skill word for several weeks at St. Mary’s School.
\nCommon Sense means to use good judgment or to take a practical approach to something. Our model saint for common sense was St. Catherine of Siena. St. Catherine took many practical approaches. She wrote letters to kings and
\nqueens to beg them to make peace with the pope and to avoid war. Her efforts
