{"id":82291,"date":"2016-11-30T15:10:52","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T20:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=82291"},"modified":"2016-11-30T15:10:52","modified_gmt":"2016-11-30T20:10:52","slug":"vwapc-christmas-party-set-for-dec-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/11\/30\/vwapc-christmas-party-set-for-dec-8\/","title":{"rendered":"VWAPC Christmas Party set for Dec. 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Rex Dolby<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82292\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82292\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-82292\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Lights.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas lights at Smiley Park. \u00a0(Photo by Rex Dolby.)\" width=\"330\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Lights.jpg 330w, https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Lights-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 330px) 100vw, 330px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Christmas lights at Smiley Park. \u00a0(Photo by Rex Dolby.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Van Wert Area Photography Club&#8217;s Christmas Dinner has been set for Thursday, December 8, at 6 p.m.\u00a0 The Black Angus on Main will be the dinner site.\u00a0 Those planning to attend must call, text, leave a message, or Email secretary Dolby by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, telling how many places you wish to reserve.\u00a0This will assure you and your guest that\u00a0you will have\u00a0a seat at the table. \u00a0Dolby&#8217;s contact points include: 419.238.4545, 567.259.8951, and <a href=\"mailto:dolbys2@embarqmail\">dolbys2@embarqmail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More and more Christmas displays can be seen around town, so I decided to provide some tips for photographing them.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll discuss outdoor displays this week and indoor displays a later time.<\/p>\n<p>Some equipment to aid in capturing a sharp image include: a tripod, a remote way to trigger the shutter (some cameras have a timer to trip the shutter), a wide angle and\/or standard lens, and extra batteries if it&#8217;s really cold.<\/p>\n<p>Now you need to determine whether you wish to include the building the lights are on, or around,\u00a0or just the lights.\u00a0If the building is to be part of the composition,\u00a0how much?\u00a0 If it is high, start at sundown or a little before if the building is\u00a0not in\u00a0direct sunlight.\u00a0 It will be dark enough that the lights will show up well and still light enough to get the background too.\u00a0 Check your results and slow or speed up the shutter, or wait till it gets darker.<\/p>\n<p>If the subject of the photo is to be the lights, you can wait\u00a0until later in the evening to start.\u00a0\u00a0Try several lens openings, shutter speeds, and ISO\u00a0settings to get your desired results.\u00a0ISO settings\u00a0should probably be no more that 400 to 800.\u00a0 Any higher risks noise in the dark areas.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re forced to use the wide angle lens in order to capture the whole scene, remember that items at the extreme edges may bend into the picture.
