{"id":82765,"date":"2016-12-20T08:27:03","date_gmt":"2016-12-20T13:27:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=82765"},"modified":"2016-12-20T08:27:03","modified_gmt":"2016-12-20T13:27:03","slug":"robotics-team-does-well-at-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2016\/12\/20\/robotics-team-does-well-at-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Robotics Team does well at competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This past weekend, the Van Wert High School Robotics Team opened up its season\u00a0in the first Tech Challenge\u00a0Dayton Regional Robotics Competition.<\/p>\n<p>The team finished the match play portion of the competition in third place with a record of 4-2,\u00a0earning it a spot in the semifinals.\u00a0In the best of three, the Van Wert team easily beat the second place team by winning the first two matches in the semifinals. However, Van Wert came up a little short in winning the entire competition.<\/p>\n<p>The VWHS robotics team did win the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award, which recognizes a team that not only thinks outside the box, but also has the ingenuity and inventiveness to make its designs come to life. This judged award is given to the team that has the most innovative and creative robot design solution to any or all specific field elements or components in the FTC game. Elements of this award include elegant design, robustness, and \u201c\u2018out of the box\u201d thinking related to design.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Austin Carnahan&#8217;s video submission of one the team&#8217;s coaches, Zane McElroy, earned Coach \u201cZ\u201d the Compass Award, which recognizes an adult coach or mentor who provides outstanding guidance and support for a team throughout the year, and demonstrates to the team what it means to be a gracious professional.<\/p>\n<p>The team competes next in Indiana in mid-January before hosting and competing in the Van Wert Northwest Ohio regional competition at the end of January.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82766\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82766\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82766 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/VWHS-Robotics-Team-12-2016.jpg\" alt=\"VWHS Robotics Team members include Austin Carnahan, Michael Etter, Noah Carter, Spencer Teman, Carter Eikenbary, Sydney Maller, Cade Chiles, Ryan Chen, Katie Able, Nick Carter, Cal Wolfrum, Kathryn Wray, and Angel Haller.
