(photo submitted)\" width=\"350\" height=\"271\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-83825\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Shown are (from the left) Matthew Miller, M.D., medical director at the PLC and a family physician at Van Wert Medical Services; Van Wert County Hospital President\/CEO Jim Pope; Trinity Langdon, director of the PLC Health Clinic; Heidi Kline, RN, PLC Health Clinic manager; and Kim Owns, RTMS, health clinic staff member.<\/strong> <em>(photo submitted)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cEven from the early stages of pregnancy, a mother can see her developing child and hear the baby\u2019s heart beat via an ultrasound,\u201d shared Matthew Miller, M.D., medical director at the\u00a0PLC and family physician at Van Wert Medical Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve dreamt about having an ultrasound machine for many years,\u201d said Langdon.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re so grateful to Van Wert County Hospital for this generous donation so we can continue saving babies and helping the scared young women who turn to us for help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to limited ultra sounds, the PLC Health Clinic will provide STI\/STD testing as part of its new medical services.\u00a0By working with Van Wert County Hospital and\u00a0Van Wert County Health Department, the PLC hopes to fill the gap in the community for this much-needed service which will be available to both women and men.<\/p>\n<p>All medical services done at the PLC will be free to patients; however, since lab and medications will be outsourced there may\u00a0be a charge for them. If patients have\u00a0insurance, most of the cost will be covered, if not all.\u00a0For patients without insurance, the PLC has set up a special fund to help\u00a0offset those costs.<\/p>\n<p>Offering free medical services, although great for the patient, comes at a high price\u00a0to the PLC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have estimated a yearly cost of $40,000 for us to run the clinic,\u201d said Langdon. \u201cThis includes paying a medical staff,\u00a0purchasing medical supplies, and\u00a0covering lab and medication fees for patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For that reason, the PLC will be holding its second annual Health Clinic Banquet fundraiser.\u00a0The event will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Willow Bend Country Club in Van Wert.
