{"id":84063,"date":"2017-02-04T08:56:32","date_gmt":"2017-02-04T13:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=84063"},"modified":"2017-02-04T08:56:32","modified_gmt":"2017-02-04T13:56:32","slug":"a-g-certifies-victims-rights-amendment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/02\/04\/a-g-certifies-victims-rights-amendment\/","title":{"rendered":"A-G certifies victims rights amendment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; The Ohio Attorney General&#8217;s Office on Friday certified the petition for a proposed amendment to the Ohio Constitution that would add the Ohio Crime Victims Bill of Rights.<\/p>\n<p>On January 24, the Ohio Attorney General&#8217;s Office\u00a0received a written\u00a0petition to amend the Ohio Constitution to add the Ohio Crime Victims Bill of Rights by a group called Marsy&#8217;s Law for Ohio LLC.\u00a0\u00a0The petition was\u00a0certified on Friday as containing\u00a0both the necessary 1,000 valid signatures\u00a0from registered Ohio voters and a &#8220;fair and truthful&#8221; summary of the proposed amendment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Without passing upon the advisability of the approval or rejection of the measure to be referred, but pursuant to the duties imposed upon the Attorney General&#8217;s Office [&#8230;] I hereby certify that the summary is a fair and truthful statement of the proposed law,&#8221;\u00a0Attorney General DeWine stated in the certification letter.<\/p>\n<p>Once the\u00a0summary language and initial signatures are certified, the Ohio Ballot Board must determine if the amendment contains a single issue or multiple issues.
