{"id":84762,"date":"2017-02-23T07:48:47","date_gmt":"2017-02-23T12:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=84762"},"modified":"2017-02-23T07:48:47","modified_gmt":"2017-02-23T12:48:47","slug":"lady-cougs-fall-in-sectional-semifinals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/02\/23\/lady-cougs-fall-in-sectional-semifinals\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Cougs fall in sectional semifinals"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SPENCERVILLE &#8212; It wasn\u2019t Van Wert\u2019s night.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Cougars fell to Defiance 28-14 in the upper bracket of \u00a0Wednesday night\u2019s Division II sectional semifinals at Spencerville High School.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Cougars committed 23 turnovers, including 10 in the first quarter, shot 16 percent from the floor, 44 percent from the free throw line and were held scoreless in the first and fourth quarters.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Cougar-head-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Cougar head logo\" width=\"168\" height=\"147\" \/>Defiance didn\u2019t fare much better, scoring single digits in each quarter, shooting 26 percent from the floor, 40 percent from the free throw line, and committing 10 turnovers.<\/p>\n<p>Van Wert outrebounded the Lady Bulldogs 27-20.<\/p>\n<p>Down 9-0 at the end of the first quarter, Van Wert outscored Defiance 10-6, but trailed 15-10 at halftime. The Lady Cougars were down 20-14 after three quarters, before being outscored 8-0 in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Ally Jackson led Van Wert with 6 points, while Jamison Clouse scored 5, and Abby Jackson finished with 3.<\/p>\n<p>The loss ended Van Wert\u2019s season at 6-17, while Defiance improved to 15-8.
