Area residents were treated to a unique tribute to The Beatles Monday evening at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio.<\/p>\n

“Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles” features approximately 30 songs that encompass the iconic British group\u2019s musical history, from its early days to its breakup in 1970.<\/p>\n

In addition, a\u00a0setup of high-definition video panels behind the group recreated The Beatles’\u00a0first American showcase on \u201cThe Ed Sullivan Show\u201d and its concert in Shea Stadium in New York City, as well as the cover of one of the group\u2019s best-known albums: Sgt. Pepper\u2019s Lonely Hearts Club Band <\/em>and some psychedelic artwork.<\/p>\n

But the \u201cmeat\u201d of the show was the group\u2019s covers of The Beatles\u2019 music. Rain, named for a Beatles\u2019 song first included as the \u201cB\u201d side of a single 45 rpm record for \u201cPaperback Writer,\u201d was first begun by Mark Lewis back in 1975 as a Southern California band doing Beatles covers. Lewis, who still manages the production, later turned the band into a professional tribute show showcasing the music of the Fab Four.<\/p>\n

The Beatles\u2019 music is still the highlight of the show, as Rain performed a note-for-note recreation of many of the group\u2019s most popular hits, as well as some of its less well-known songs, such as \u201cRain.\u201d<\/p>\n

The piece de resistance<\/em> of the show, however, was the group\u2019s spot-on performance of the entire \u201cSgt. Pepper\u201d album, including a smashing version of \u201cA Day in the Life\u201d — the final song on the album — to begin the second half of the show.<\/p>\n

The brilliant recreation of The Beatles\u2019 most iconic album earned Rain a standing ovation from the sold-out audience on Monday.<\/p>\n

The first half started with the group\u2019s performance on \u201cThe Ed Sullivan Show\u201d and moved through the early phase of the Brit group\u2019s career, including the Shea Stadium concert.<\/p>\n

The musicianship was superb, and the recreation of the Beatles\u2019 music so faithful, it seemed as if the group had miraculously come to life again on the NPAC stage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
