{"id":86559,"date":"2017-04-18T07:44:19","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T12:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=86559"},"modified":"2017-04-19T08:28:48","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T13:28:48","slug":"local-businesses-entities-earn-state-safety-recognition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/04\/18\/local-businesses-entities-earn-state-safety-recognition\/","title":{"rendered":"Local entities earn state safety honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Employers in the Van Wert area have been recognized by the Ohio Bureau of Workers\u2019 Compensation (BWC) for going at least six months and 500,000 man-hours without a workplace safety incident that caused a worker to miss a day or more of work.<\/p>\n<p>Each employer received the bureau\u2019s Special Award for Safety during the Van Wert Area Safety Council\u2019s annual awards ceremony April 12.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaintaining a safe workplace requires real work and commitment, which isn\u2019t easy given all the challenges related to operating a business,\u201d said BWC Administrator\/CEO Sarah Morrison. \u201cI commend these employers and their workers for making safety a top priority and for their example to other businesses. We want all workers in Ohio to return home safely each day after their shift.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local employers recognized with the Special Award for Safety include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Van Wert County &#8212; 618,028 hours worked<\/li>\n<li>Kenn-Feld Group LLC &#8212; 707,449 hours worked<\/li>\n<li>Van Wert City Schools &#8212; 626,717 hours worked<\/li>\n<li>Crestview Local Schools &#8212; 1,028,219 hours worked<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the Special Award for Safety, the council also honored local businesses in three other award categories, including:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Group Award for Safety &#8212; Recognizes businesses with the lowest incident rate within its business\/industry type;<\/li>\n<li>The 100 Percent Award &#8212; Recognizes businesses with zero injuries or illnesses resulting in a day or more away from work in the previous calendar year;<\/li>\n<li>The Achievement Award &#8212; Recognizes businesses with a 25-percent or more reduction in incident rates from the previous year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Van Wert Area Safety Council is one of more than 80 across the state that partner with BWC to educate employers and workers about the importance of workplace safety.
