{"id":86580,"date":"2017-04-18T16:15:40","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T21:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=86580"},"modified":"2017-04-18T16:15:40","modified_gmt":"2017-04-18T21:15:40","slug":"food-fun-concerts-in-fountain-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/04\/18\/food-fun-concerts-in-fountain-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Food, fun, &#038; concerts in Fountain Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">We are inching our way to the summer, and that means concerts in Fountain Park in downtown Van Wert.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>For sixteen years, I\u2019ve looked over to Fountain Park from my church job at First UM in the winter and thought, summer will be a way off.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Now, for the sixteenth season, concerts will return to Fountain Park, compliments of The Van Wert County Foundation.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>We are just six weeks away from our first concert on June 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">This week, we had representatives from eight non-profit organizations gather to select their concert they will serve food for.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>They are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">June 2 &#8212; Groove Essential, Peony Festival Committee<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">June 16 &#8212; The Doo Wah Riders, Kingsley United Methodist Church<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">June 23 &#8212; Travelin\u2019 McCourys, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary 54<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">June 30 &#8212; Lima Pops Orchestra, Boy Scout Troop 35<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">July 7 &#8212; U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, The Salvation Army<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">July 14 &#8212; The Stranger: Billy Joel Tribute, Van Wert Band Parents<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">July 21 &#8212; We\u2019ve Only Just Begun: Carpenters Tribute, Crestview Band Parents<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">July 28 &#8212; Hotel California (Eagles tribute), Buckeye Y<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">August 11 &#8212; Southern Drawl, Van Wert County Humane Society<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">You might notice a new concert in the lineup from our initial press release.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The U.S. Army contacted me recently and said they could make a stop in Van Wert on July 7.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The Van Wert Area Community Concert Band graciously gave up that date to the Army. (Can\u2019t fight the U.S. Army and win, you know!)\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Thanks to the Community Band and their director Richard Sherrick.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>I imagine many of them will attend the Jazz Ambassadors concert.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>By the way, you can still catch the Community Band in Fountain Park on May 26 and August 18 as well as other events this summer throughout the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">The U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors are known as America\u2019s Big Band and provide big band jazz music for American citizens to enjoy as well as those serving in the military.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Each musician is a soldier of the United States Army, but also expert musicians, many of whom have degrees and master degrees from prestigious schools of music.\u00a0Getting accepted into the top musical organizations of the military is very competitive.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>An audition process eliminates many and accepts only the very best.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">Any time the U.S. military calls, I am very quick to oblige and have them perform for you.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>I think it is a distinct honor to have them in our community and I know you will enjoy and show your appreciation to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">There is one concert left at the Niswonger this season that still has some seats available.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>That is The Hitmen on Saturday, May 6.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>It is also quickly filling up, so don\u2019t delay on getting your tickets for this one.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The band is comprised of musicians who helped make the music everyone has enjoyed over the years from the likes of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons,\u00a0Tommy James and the Shondells, Carly Simon, Jim Croce, Barry Manilow, and Elton John, just to name a few.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">I\u2019ve heard them on a couple occasions and didn\u2019t want them to stop playing and singing.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Visit the box office or go online soon.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>May 6 will be here soon!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;\">With that being said, I am getting very excited with the progress of next year\u2019s season at the Niswonger.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>It is just about finished and I just got confirmation on a big name artist I\u2019ve been after for some time.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Stay tuned!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt;
