{"id":86644,"date":"2017-04-19T13:38:55","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T18:38:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=86644"},"modified":"2017-04-19T13:38:55","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T18:38:55","slug":"pre-engineering-classes-at-natl-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/04\/19\/pre-engineering-classes-at-natl-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Pre-Engineering classes at nat&#8217;l competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_86645\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86645\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-86645\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Pre-engineering-pic-1.jpg\" alt=\"(Photo submitted.)\" width=\"330\" height=\"186\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Students in Project Lead the Way Pre-Engineering classes took part in a national engineering competition on March 16th at Ohio Northern University.\u00a0 The contest is called TEAM+S (<a href=\"http:\/\/teams.tsaweb.org\/\">Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, &amp; Science<\/a>) and is conducted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tsaweb.org\/\">Technology Student Association<\/a>.\u00a0 The theme of this year\u2019s contest was &#8220;Engineering the Environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Students worked together as a group on three parts of the competition.\u00a0 First, the students researched and submitted an essay prior to the competition day on renewable energy sources that could be viable in the state of Ohio.\u00a0 Second, the group had 90 minutes to work through 80 multiple choice problem solving questions, 10 each<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86646\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86646\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-86646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Pre-engineering-pic-2.jpg\" alt=\"(Photo submitted.)\" width=\"330\" height=\"186\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86646\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>from 8 &#8220;scenarios&#8221; that were theme related.\u00a0 The third part of the contest required the group to design and build a device that &#8220;moved&#8221; a standing water bottle from a predetermined collection of supplies.\u00a0 Scoring for the design was based on time required to complete the task and upon the economical use of the supplies.<\/p>\n<p>The students competing included: (Jr\/Sr. team) Taylor Braun, Jayden Dickson, Hunter Adams, Keegan Cowan, Wayne Fawbush, Chayten Overholt; (Frsh\/Soph team) Jacob Keysor, Kaleb Allenbaugh, Freddie Pfau, Joe Sadowski, and Colton Trenkamp.<\/p>\n<p>The Junior\/Senior Team won third in State \u2013 Essay and seventh in State \u2013 Overall.
