{"id":87204,"date":"2017-05-02T06:18:38","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T11:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=87204"},"modified":"2017-05-02T06:20:28","modified_gmt":"2017-05-02T11:20:28","slug":"lancers-shut-out-allen-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/05\/02\/lancers-shut-out-allen-east\/","title":{"rendered":"Lancers shut out Allen East"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Freshman pitcher Gavin Carter tossed a complete game one-hitter, and the Lincolnview Lancers posted a 9-0 Northwest Conference win over the visiting Allen East Mustangs on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to giving up just one hit, Carter struck out eight and walked just two.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87205\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87205\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-87205 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Slide5-1-17.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"277\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Lincolnview&#8217;s Sam Myers slides safely into third base.<\/strong> <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cGavin pitched very well, worked ahead in his counts, and let his defense work,\u201d Lincolnview head coach Eric Fishpaw said.<\/p>\n<p>The Lancers plated two of their runs with two outs in the first inning. Brayden Evans stole home for the first run, and Carter scored on a wild pitch.<\/p>\n<p>Braxton Fox scored on a ground out by Nick Motycka in the third inning, and a sacrifice bunt by Ethan Parsons scored Jaden Youtsey to make it 4-0.<\/p>\n<p>A fifth inning RBI single by Motycka scored Fox, to increase Lincolnview\u2019s lead to 5-0. Later in the inning, another sacrifice bunt by Parsons scored Youtsey, and Motycka stole home to make it 7-0.<\/p>\n<p>Motycka finished the game with a hit, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nick has had some nice approaches at the plate the last few games,&#8221; Fishpaw said. &#8220;He is doing a nice job getting on base for us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Youtsey finished a fine game of his own, by blasting a sixth inning home run to left field that scored Evans.<\/p>\n<p>Allen East dropped to 7-8 (2-3 NWC), while Lincolnview improved to 6-13 (3-3 NWC).<\/p>\n<p>After the game, youth baseball players who were on hand for Middle Point Ballpark Day were able to run the bases, and interact with Lincolnview team members.<\/p>\n<p>Box score:<\/p>\n<p>Allen East \u00a0 \u00a0 000 000 0\u20130<br \/>\nLincolnview \u00a0202 032 x\u20139<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent sports editor Freshman pitcher Gavin Carter tossed a complete game one-hitter, and the Lincolnview Lancers posted a 9-0 Northwest Conference win over the visiting Allen East Mustangs on Monday.
