Due to inclement weather conditions, yesterday\u2019s portion of the two-day tournament was played indoors, at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Cougar-head-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Cougar head logo\" width=\"168\" height=\"147\" \/>At third singles, Ryan Keber posted Van Wert\u2019s lone victory of the day, by defeating Paul Fohrmann of Wapakoneta, 6-2, 6-0. Keber\u2019s next opponent will be Celina\u2019s Drew Rosengarten. The two will square off in tomorrow\u2019s semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>At first singles, Van Wert\u2019s Michael Etter lost his opening round match to Kenton\u2019s Kyle Goodin, 6-2, 6-2, and at second singles, Gabe Rollins fell to Ottawa-Glandorf\u2019s Craig Recker 7-6, 6-2.<\/p>\n<p>The first doubles duo of Spencer Teman and Kannen Wannemacher lost a tough match to St. Mary\u2019s Memorial\u2019s CJ Vanderhorst and Howie Spencer, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>At second doubles, Van Wert&#8217;s Zane Fast and Michael Hellman were defeated by Shawnee\u2019s Harsha Battula and Mitchell Shirk 6-4, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Etter, Rollins, Teman\/Wannemacher, and Fast\/Hellman will compete in tomorrow\u2019s consolation brackets, with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at UNOH.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent sports editor LIMA \u2013 It was a tough day for the Van Wert Cougars, during the opening round of the Western Buckeye League tennis tournament.
