The Van Wert Area Photography Club has a meeting\u00a0next week on Thursday, May 11, starting at 7 pm. at 114 S. Race St.\u00a0 Four reports are expected, three of which may impact future meeting times and locations.\u00a0 The fourth will reveal the financial status of the club.<\/p>\n

We’d like to remind the reader that time has a way of surprising us by how quickly it can run out.\u00a0 With that in mind, here again is the list of categories for this year’s county fair Photography\u00a0Exhibit.\u00a0 They are:\u00a0\u00a0Expressions\/ Emotions,<\/p>\n

Macro\/Things\u00a0Up Close,\u00a0 Reflections,\u00a0 Water,\u00a0 and\u00a0\u00a0 Weather.\u00a0 These are for both Juniors and Seniors in Color and B\/W.\u00a0\u00a0 They may be submitted in frames with openings no larger than 18 united inches. (one length + one width, such as an 8×10)<\/p>\n

You may have heard someone say that you aught to get a UV filter, which reduces haze by absorbing some of the ultra violet light, or a Skylight1B filter which has a slightly pinkish color in order to counter the\u00a0bluish cast that\u00a0you see\u00a0in some outdoor scenes. But their reasoning is not so much to improve the\u00a0photo as it is to protect your lens from dirt or damage.\u00a0 They argue that it is much cheaper to replace a scratched filter than a lens.<\/p>\n

Although this is certainly true, the other side argues\u00a0that they don’t want to shoot through a cheap piece of glass when they could be taking the picture through their premium lens. That’s true too.\u00a0 What’s a photographer to do?<\/p>\n

Advocates of the filter\u00a0as protector\u00a0say that if you buy a quality-made filter, you’ll never notice the difference\u00a0when comparing a filtered\u00a0photo with\u00a0an unfiltered photo.\u00a0 I guess the only way you can\u00a0really know for sure that’s true is to\u00a0conduct your own tests.<\/p>\n

First research what companies make high quality filters, then find someone having\u00a0what you need\u00a0and\u00a0borrow them.\u00a0I would suggest you set your camera on a tripod, make your settings, add the filter, check that the lighting will remain the same for a few more seconds\u00a0and shoot. Immediately remove the filter and shoot again.\u00a0 That way you can be assured that the two photos are the same, except for the filter on or off.<\/p>\n

You might want to try three\u00a0pictures that have detail, one closer, one mid-range, and one farther away, so depth of field can also be ruled out.\u00a0 \u00a0It’s something to think about anyway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
