{"id":87432,"date":"2017-05-08T07:02:56","date_gmt":"2017-05-08T12:02:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=87432"},"modified":"2017-05-08T07:02:56","modified_gmt":"2017-05-08T12:02:56","slug":"keber-takes-second-at-wbl-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/05\/08\/keber-takes-second-at-wbl-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"Keber takes second at WBL tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>LIMA \u2013 Van Wert\u2019s Ryan Keber captured second place at third singles, during Saturday\u2019s action at the Western Buckeye League tennis tournament at the University of Northwestern Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>After winning his opening round match, Keber advanced to the semifinals and won by default when his opponent, Drew Rosengarten from Celina had to default due to illness.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Cougar-head-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Cougar head logo\" width=\"168\" height=\"147\" \/>In the tournament finals, Keber fell to top-seeded Jackson Schaaf of Shawnee 6-4, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Keber) played really well in the finals, probably the best he\u2019s played all year,\u201d co-head coach Chuck Rollins said. \u201cHe really pushed the kid from Shawnee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shawnee, the regular season WBL champion, won the league tournament by sweeping all five finals matches. Van Wert finished fourth in the regular season, and tied for fourth with Elida and Kenton in the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>At first singles, Van Wert\u2019s Michael Etter finished sixth, and at second singles, Gabe Rollins finished fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Both of Van Wert\u2019s doubles teams (Spencer Teman and Kannen Wannemacher, and Zane Fast and Michael Hellman) finished seventh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe played really well as a team, but we lost a lot of close matches in the main draw,\u201d Rollins said. \u201cWe had a decent tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars will begin Division II sectional play at UNOH on Thursday, with more action slated for Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent sports editor LIMA \u2013 Van Wert\u2019s Ryan Keber captured second place at third singles, during Saturday\u2019s action at the Western Buckeye League tennis tournament at the University of Northwestern Ohio.
