Van Wert independent\/<\/strong>Brumback Library information<\/em><\/p>\n

Brumback Library announces that its 96th annual Summer Reading Program will be held Wednesday, June 8, through Saturday, July 23. This year\u2019s theme, \u201cOne World, Many Stories,\u201d will focus on reading, library resources, and services as a pathway to fun, adventure, exploration, and discovery. A myriad of events at Main Library and the branches will highlight reading activities, along with games, crafts, and more! Numerous contests and other exciting events have been planned throughout the course of the seven-week program. As always, drawings, prizes, and awards will be offered. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stop by the library at least once a week to record your child\u2019s titles and check out a few more books.<\/p>\n

This summer will be great! To get the program off to an exciting start at Main Library, hop on board and join folk life artist Ellen Ford on Wednesday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the Reading Room. As the fearless leader on this expedition, Ford will be sharing her favorite stories, songs, and games from around the world that children will never forget.<\/p>\n

In the days and weeks to follow, the library has scheduled countless other special programs. Back by popular demand, Larry Wirtz, the Science Guy, will be at the library in June, while Tom Phoolery will magically appear in July. Library officials are extremely excited about the programs that will showcase the innate talents of Van Wert\u2019s countless experts. These programs include Joy Gordon and Katrina Rupert as the Kitchen Magicians, artist and educator Mary Minnig, horticulturist Tammy Campbell, scrapbooking expert Belinda Miller, photographer Bill Galloway and railroad enthusiast Bill Stanley. In addition, there will be story and craft sessions, walk-in crafts, scavenger hunts, and trivia days at Main Library and the branches.<\/p>\n

Summer reading participants may register for one of four hour-long, free swims at the YMCA, and will also be eligible to attend the MadCap Puppet Theatre\u2019s production of\u00a0\u201cTales of Flight with the Brothers Wright\u201d at the Marsh Foundation Auditorium, and the movie Cars 2<\/em> at the Van Wert Cinemas.<\/p>\n

The annual carnival for all young readers will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at Trinity Friends Life Center on July 14.<\/p>\n

Finally, eligible Summer Reading participants will have the opportunity to attend a free Fort Wayne TinCaps baseball game in either July or August.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s program is underwritten\u00a0by the Van Wert Federation of Teachers, plus Brumback Library and many individuals. It should also be noted that approximately 50 area businesses generously donated prizes for the following age\/grade levels:<\/p>\n

The Read-To-Me Club<\/strong>: Infants through toddlers age 2\u00bd. Parents are encouraged to read 20 or more titles to their children. Special story times, activities, and drawings will be offered.<\/p>\n

The Listening Club<\/strong>: Participants ages 2\u00bd through kindergarten will take part in various activities, drawings, contests, and story time sessions. Adults or older children are asked to share 20 or more titles with children and then record these titles on the children\u2019s sheet.<\/p>\n

The Reading Club<\/strong>: This group is comprised of students in grades 1-8. All children will be encouraged to read 20 or more titles in addition to participating in a variety of programs and activities.<\/p>\n

In addition to the aforementioned Summer Reading Program for the library\u2019s youngest readers, there are Summer Reading Programs for students in grades 9-12, adults, and homebound residents from June 8 through July 23. For every five books participants read, they may complete a form to participate in a series of drawings for a variety of gifts and prizes (forms to record books read will be available at Main Library and each of the five branch libraries; homebound residents may also contact Outreach Librarians Julie Thomas and Joyce Harrow for forms).<\/p>\n
