{"id":89168,"date":"2017-06-16T16:27:23","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T21:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=89168"},"modified":"2017-06-16T16:27:23","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T21:27:23","slug":"helmut-breitwieser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/06\/16\/helmut-breitwieser\/","title":{"rendered":"Helmut Breitwieser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Helmut Breitwieser, 74, husband of Janice Huffine Breitwieser, died Wednesday, June\u00a014, 2017, at his home in Sumter, South Carolina.<br \/>\nBorn March 11, 1943, in Yugoslavia, he was a son of Henry Breitwieser and Katharina Dietrich Breitwieser, who both preceded him in death.<\/p>\n<p>He was a very active member of First Southern\u00a0Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years.\u00a0He was employed\u00a0by National Seal in Van Wert and Federal-Mogul in Summerton for 43 years.\u00a0He\u00a0was an avid photographer and donated many Civil War re-enactment photos to the\u00a0Sumter County Museum.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89169\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89169\" style=\"width: 111px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-89169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Helmut-Breitheiser-obit-photo-6-2017.jpg\" alt=\"Helmut Breithieser\" width=\"111\" height=\"128\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89169\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Helmut Breitwieser<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hal spent his final weeks surrounded by family and friends in fellowship through\u00a0singing favorite hymns and Johnny Cash. The family would like to express its thanks\u00a0to Tri-County Hospice for taking care of our sweet daddy and special thanks to Rita.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include his wife of 54 years; four children, Tammy (John) Robinson, and Angie (Larry) Keith, both of Sumter, Jeff (Martha) Breitwieser of Easley, and Stacey\u00a0(Duane) Schmierer of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Kayla (Nathan) Stewart, Lindsey Breitwieser,\u00a0Michael (Paige) Robinson, Sarah Keith (Donnovan Hodge), William (Marykatherine) Keith, Keith (Alice) Simmons, Cristal Day, Madalyn, Joseph, Luke, Kathryn,\u00a0and Olivia Schmierer; eight great-grandchildren, Elliott, Paisley, Mason, Kelsey, Hunter,\u00a0Marley, Morgan, and Charley; two sisters, Martha Breitwieser of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and\u00a0MaryAnn (Gene) Baughman of Paulding; a brother, John (Karen) Breitwieser of\u00a0Toledo; and numerous nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Cowan &amp; Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Ellison Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There will be no visitation.<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preferred memorials: First Southern Methodist Church, 321 Miller Road, Sumter,\u00a0SC 29150, or Sumter County Museum, 129 N.
