{"id":89494,"date":"2017-06-26T07:45:31","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T12:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=89494"},"modified":"2017-06-26T11:07:53","modified_gmt":"2017-06-26T16:07:53","slug":"crestview-eyes-more-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/06\/26\/crestview-eyes-more-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Crestview grid team eyes more success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>CONVOY &#8212; Coming off a record-setting 2016 campaign, the Crestview Knights are preparing hard for the upcoming high school football season.<\/p>\n<p>After a 7-3 (4-3 Northwest Conference) regular season, Crestview qualified for the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, then won back-to-back playoff games to advance to the regional finals for the first time in school history. The Knights lost a heartbreaker to McComb, 35-28 in double overtime.<\/p>\n<p>With an eye on the 2017 season, players and coaches are making the most of 10 contact days allowed in June and July.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89482\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89482\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-89482\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Coach-Owens-headshot-e1498481013444.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"223\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89482\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Coach Jared Owens<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re using those in a combination of camp and 7-on-7 competitions,\u201d Crestview head coach Jared Owens explained. \u201cThe 7-on-7\u2019s have value for defensive backs, wide receivers and quarterbacks. It helps with timing and knowledge of the offense and defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a coaching staff, we can start to see where people can help the team positionally,\u201d Owens added.<\/p>\n<p>Also important to any team\u2019s success on the football field is weight room participation, and Owens likes what he sees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn June our main focus has been on strength, conditioning and movement,\u201d Owens said. \u201cI have been pleased with our attendance and our effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur top goal over the summer is to develop cohesion as a team,\u201d the coach noted. \u201cWe work hard together and I think that brings us closer as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not to be discounted \u2013 last season\u2019s three week playoff run, which could factor into any success this season and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA deep run into the playoffs gives you the opportunity for more practices,\u201d Owens said. \u201cI think this helps you continue to develop players and improve fundamentals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crestview\u2019s 2017 football season will kick off August 25 at Parkway.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tomorrow: A look at Van Wert\u2019s football off-season.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent sports editor CONVOY &#8212; Coming off a record-setting 2016 campaign, the Crestview Knights are preparing hard for the upcoming high school football season.
