Crestview dropped to 4-8.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89530\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89530\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-89530\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/VWCHS6-26-17-e1498567456804.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89530\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Brett Schumm watches a pitch go into the glove of Owen Treece.<\/strong> <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert<\/em> <em>independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Both teams had shaky moments. Van Wert\u2019s Hayden Maples walked three batters in the first, but recovered to hold the Knights to a single run in the opening inning.<\/p>\n<p>Van Wert took advantage of Crestview miscues in the third (three errors and a pair of walks) and a timely RBI single by Jalen McCracken to enjoy a 2-1 advantage.\u00a0The Cougars increased their lead to 3-1 in the fifth, when Maples hit a single that scored McCracken.<\/p>\n<p>After a rain delay, Crestview trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the sixth when Brant Richardson scored on an error, then the Knights tied the game in the top of the seventh when Caden Hurless singled home Kole Small.<\/p>\n<p>Maples pitched well into the seventh inning before being relieved by Jake Lautzenheiser, who was given credit for the win.\u00a0Crestview used a trio of pitchers \u2013 Richardson, Small and Caden Hurless.
