Korea, Iran sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C.\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) voted in favor of increased sanctions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea in a vote held\u00a0Tuesday\u00a0evening.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/115\/bills\/hr3364\/BILLS-115hr3364ih.pdf\">H.R. 3364<\/a>, the Russia, Iran, and North Korea Sanctions Act, passed by a\u00a0strong\u00a0bipartisan vote and would levy greater economic and political sanctions on the three nations. Sanctions on Iran and North Korea were added to the House legislation after the Senate recently approved sanctions on Russia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33253\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33253\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Latta-Bob-8-2012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"240\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33253\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Bob Latta<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe three nations addressed by\u00a0this\u00a0legislation have flaunted international laws and each is a threat to stability around the globe,\u201d said Latta.\u00a0\u201cRussia\u2019s cyberattacks and support for the Assad regime in Syria needs to be met with additional sanctions to curb their flagrant behavior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, North Korea\u2019s advancement of their nuclear weapons program poses a grave threat to the United States and our ally, South Korea, and Iran steadfastly violates U.N.\u00a0resolutions regarding ballistic missiles,\u201d Latta added. \u201cIt goes without saying that all three regimes also have atrocious human rights records.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to hit these countries where it hurts\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0in their pocketbook\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0and provide American leadership at a time when the world desperately needs it,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Title\u00a0I\u00a0of the legislation addresses Iran and those involved in the country\u2019s ballistic missile program, their efforts to threaten Israel, and ongoing human rights abuses. Sanctions are imposed on any individual that\u00a0materially\u00a0contributes to the regime\u2019s ballistic missile program, weapons of mass destruction program, international terrorism, or participates in the sale of military equipment with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Title II of H.R. 3364 addresses Russia by applying new sanctions on corrupt actors, those seeking to evade sanctions, human rights abusers, individuals responsible for supplying weapons to the Assad regime, or conducting cyber activity on behalf of the Russian government. The bill also authorizes assistance to nation\u2019s susceptible to Russia aggression in eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Title III increases Presidential authority to levy sanctions on individuals in violation of specific U.N.
