{"id":90833,"date":"2017-07-28T07:33:40","date_gmt":"2017-07-28T12:33:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=90833"},"modified":"2017-07-29T06:14:06","modified_gmt":"2017-07-29T11:14:06","slug":"model-railroad-show-returns-to-vw-county-fairgrounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/07\/28\/model-railroad-show-returns-to-vw-county-fairgrounds\/","title":{"rendered":"Model train show returns to Van Wert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent staff writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a fan of model railroads, you\u2019ll want to spend some of this weekend at the Van Wert County Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>The Van Wert Historical Society is sponsoring the 14th annual Railroad Heritage Weekend from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at 1055 South Washington Street in Van Wert.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman Chuck White said after all these years, the Model Railroad Show and Swap remains very popular among train enthusiasts, along with casual fans of the hobby.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90835\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90835\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-90835\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Train1-e1501326397600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90835\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Pictured is one of the many displays from last year&#8217;s Model Railroad Show and Swap in Van Wert.<\/strong> <em>(Photo provided)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe sold out (space) six weeks before this year\u2019s show, and we have a wait list of 10 vendors with 24 tables,\u201d White explained. \u201cWe\u2019ll have 180 tables of model railroad bargains, displays and related merchandise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the annual event continues to grow in size and popularity, this weekend\u2019s show will be spread out over three buildings at the fairgrounds \u2013 the Commercial Building, the Jr. Fair Building and the Annex, and displays will vary in each of those buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur lineup for layouts includes one Lionel, four HO scale, 2 N scale, and as many as seven Time Savers &#8212; these are hands on switching puzzles,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll also have a children\u2019s play area with Thomas the Tank Engine, Brio and all sorts of wooden track,\u201d White added.<\/p>\n<p>Admission is $4 for adults, and free for children 12 and under. Scouts in uniform will also be admitted free of charge, and parking is free.
