{"id":94662,"date":"2017-10-26T07:09:09","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T12:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=94662"},"modified":"2017-10-26T07:09:09","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T12:09:09","slug":"latta-working-on-opioid-abuse-measure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/10\/26\/latta-working-on-opioid-abuse-measure\/","title":{"rendered":"Latta working on opioid abuse measure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, D.C.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0On Wednesday,\u00a0U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) questioned federal officials at a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/energycommerce.house.gov\/hearings\/federal-efforts-combat-opioid-crisis-status-update-cara-initiatives\/\">House Energy and Commerce hearing<\/a>\u00a0about efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and received assurances that federal agencies will\u00a0collaborate with him on potential legislation to make data on the crisis more easily available.<\/p>\n<p>Latta asked Dr. Elinore McCance-Katz of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration\u00a0(SAMHSA) about accountability measurers that SAMHSA requires of states to ensure that grant money under the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery (CARA) Act is spent wisely and on those most likely to benefit from\u00a0treatment\u00a0programs.<\/p>\n<p>Latta highlighted legislation he is planning to introduce that would create a public electronic database of information relating to nationwide efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
