{"id":95759,"date":"2017-11-26T23:59:37","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T04:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=95759"},"modified":"2017-11-26T21:20:01","modified_gmt":"2017-11-27T02:20:01","slug":"lady-lancers-defeat-continental","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/11\/26\/lady-lancers-defeat-continental\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Lancers defeat Continental"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A strong second half allowed the Lincolnview Lady Lancers to pull away from Continental and win 54-26 during Saturday\u2019s season opener at Lincolnview High School.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Lancers led 14-5 after the first quarter and 19-14 at halftime, then went on to outscore the Lady Pirates 35-12 in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won, and it\u2019s always nice to open the season with a win,\u201d Lincolnview head coach Dan Williamson said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_95758\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-95758\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-95758\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/AdiaWelch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"359\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-95758\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Lincolnview&#8217;s Adia Welch looks to pass the ball.<\/strong> <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Lady Lancers opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run on back-to-back baskets by Kayla Schimmoeller, and a bucket by Alena Looser. By the 3:26 mark of the quarter, Lincolnview\u2019s lead was stretched to 31-18. Looser hit buzzer-beating three-pointer to make it 36-20.<\/p>\n<p>Maddie Gorman keyed a 12-0 run to open the final quarter. Gorman hit two treys, Looser hit two baskets, and Schimmoeller added another bucket to increase Lincolnview\u2019s lead to 48-20. Schimmoeller finished with a game high 13 points, including six in the first quarter, while Looser had 11.<\/p>\n<p>Lincolnview enjoyed a 24-17 rebounding advantage, and Williamson said offensive rebounding was a key factor for the Lady Lancers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOffensive rebounds definitely helped,\u201d Williamson said. \u201cIt opened up some things on the outside and Maddie Gorman was able to knock down two big threes, and that opened some things for other players.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Defensively, Lincolnview held the Lady Pirates to 12-of-34 shooting (35 percent), including just 1-of-7 from behind the arc. The Lady Lancers also held Continental to single digits in each of the four quarters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was really surprised with how well our 1-3-1 zone worked,\u201d Williamson said.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams struggled from the free throw line.
