{"id":95806,"date":"2017-11-28T00:05:11","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T05:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=95806"},"modified":"2017-11-28T08:22:18","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T13:22:18","slug":"season-preview-lincolnview-lancers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/11\/28\/season-preview-lincolnview-lancers\/","title":{"rendered":"Season Preview: Lincolnview Lancers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Despite the loss of last year\u2019s leading scorer (Ryan Rager), there\u2019s reason for optimism for the 2017-2018 Lincolnview Lancers.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Brett Hammons welcomes back four starters, including two second team All-Northwest Conference guards \u20135-7\u00a0 senior Caden Ringwald and 5-8 senior Chayten Overholt, along with 6-3 senior forward Isiac Bowersock and 6-3 junior forward Ethan Kemler.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_83838\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-83838\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-83838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cview-vs.-Lview-boys-1-27-17-Overholt-e1511839388166.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"397\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-83838\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Chayten Oveholt is one of four returning starters for Lincolnview.<\/strong> <em>(Bob Barnes photo)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In addition, two other letter winners return for the Lancers \u2013 6-1 senior forward Tristin Miller and 6-3 junior forward Zane Miller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do have a lot returning, and at this same point as last year we are ahead,\u201d Hammons said. \u201cThe guys have a better understanding of what we expect from them, and are doing a better job of picking things up. I have been pleased with the progress that is being made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The returning players, plus five others &#8211; 5-9 junior guard Logan Williams,6-2 senior forward Ethan Parsons, 6-0 junior guard Alek Bowersock, 6-0 junior guard Kyle Wallis and 5-9 junior guard Jorge Salinas will try to improve on last year\u2019s 11-13 (4-4 NWC) finish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel we do a good job of getting out and running, and I also feel we can shoot the ball well from three point range,\u201d Hammons said. \u201cWe do a good job of getting after the basketball on the defensive end of the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to continue to work on every aspect of our game,\u201d Hammons added. \u201cOne major area we have to focus on this year if we want to win more games is rebounding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lincolnview\u2019s non-conference schedule will present some challenges, with the likes of Van Wert, Upper Scioto Valley, Continental, Wayne Trace, Fort Jennings, Kalida, Ottoville, Fort Recovery, Miller City, Parkway, Delphos St. John\u2019s, Arlington and Perry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur non-conference schedule is very challenging,\u201d Hammons explained. \u201cWe have a lot of tough games and I like that and so do the players. We like going against teams that will help make us better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As far as the NWC, Hammons believes the 2017-2018 title race should be a competitive one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel that the conference is going to be very balanced from top to bottom,\u201d Hammons stated. \u201cThere are a lot of talented players and teams. I feel if we play to the level that we can we could put ourselves in very good position to contend in the conference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lincolnview\u2019s season will tipoff Saturday at Van Wert.
