{"id":95825,"date":"2017-11-28T08:48:20","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T13:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=95825"},"modified":"2017-11-28T08:48:20","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T13:48:20","slug":"ohio-a-g-certifies-amendment-petitions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2017\/11\/28\/ohio-a-g-certifies-amendment-petitions\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio A-G certifies amendment petitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; The Ohio Attorney General\u2019s Office has certified two petitions for\u00a0proposed amendments to the Ohio Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>On November 17, the\u00a0Ohio Attorney General\u2019s Office received two written petitions\u00a0to amend the Ohio Constitution, entitled &#8220;The Initiative and Referendum Amendment for Counties and Townships&#8221; and &#8220;The Ohio Community Rights Amendment,&#8221; from a petitioning\u00a0committee called Ohio Community Rights. The petitions were both certified as containing both the necessary 1,000 valid signatures from registered Ohio voters and a \u201cfair and truthful\u201d summary of the proposed amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout passing upon the advisability of the approval or rejection of the measure to be referred, but pursuant to the duties imposed upon the Attorney General\u2019s Office [\u2026] I hereby certify that the summary is a fair and truthful statement of the proposed law,\u201d Attorney General DeWine stated in the certification letter for each petition.<\/p>\n<p>Once the summary language and initial signatures are certified, the Ohio Ballot Board must determine if the amendments each contain a single issue or multiple issues.\u00a0The petitioners must then collect signatures for each issue from registered voters in each of 44 of Ohio\u2019s 88 counties, equal to 5 percent of the total vote cast in the county for the office of governor at the last gubernatorial election.\u00a0Total signatures collected statewide must also equal 10 percent of the total vote cast for the office of governor at the last gubernatorial election.<\/p>\n<p>The full text of the letters and the amendment petitions submitted can be found at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/links.govdelivery.com\/track?type=click&amp;enid=ZWFzPTEmbXNpZD0mYXVpZD0mbWFpbGluZ2lkPTIwMTcxMTI3LjgxNTIwMTUxJm1lc3NhZ2VpZD1NREItUFJELUJVTC0yMDE3MTEyNy44MTUyMDE1MSZkYXRhYmFzZWlkPTEwMDEmc2VyaWFsPTE3MTYwMjA5JmVtYWlsaWQ9ZWRpdG9yQHRoZXZ3aW5kZXBlbmRlbnQuY29tJnVzZXJpZD1lZGl0b3JAdGhldndpbmRlcGVuZGVudC5jb20mdGFyZ2V0aWQ9JmZsPSZtdmlkPSZleHRyYT0mJiY=&amp;&amp;&amp;100&amp;&amp;&amp;http:\/\/www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov\/Petitions\">www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov\/Petitions<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VW independent\/submitted information COLUMBUS &#8212; The Ohio Attorney General\u2019s Office has certified two petitions for\u00a0proposed amendments to the Ohio Constitution.
