{"id":9614,"date":"2011-06-21T04:24:18","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T09:24:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=9614"},"modified":"2011-06-21T04:24:18","modified_gmt":"2011-06-21T09:24:18","slug":"united-way-2010-under-450000-goal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/06\/21\/united-way-2010-under-450000-goal\/","title":{"rendered":"United Way: 2010 under $450,000 goal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although United Way&#8217;s 2010 campaign was a little disappointing, there are higher hopes for this year&#8217;s campaign, which begins in September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United Way of Van Wert County has just ended the 2010 campaign (and) contributions were just shy of $417,000,&#8221; stated Meghan Dicke, 2010 campaign chair (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/2010-UNITED-WAY-DIVISION-GOALS-6-2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a><\/strong> for campaign breakdown). \u00a0&#8220;I am grateful for those individuals who contributed, as well as the businesses, industries, banks, and school employees,\u00a0 but I am disappointed at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9615\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/United-Way-Van-Wert-County-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"152\" \/>I wish we could have reached that $450,000 goal,&#8221; she added. &#8220;When you look at an agency\u2019s funding application and know that the program(s) are needed in the community, yet you just don\u2019t have enough funds to go around, tough decisions have to be made; it is not an easy thing to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dicke said United Way is looking forward o a new campaign with Chair Lorie Garwood of First Bank of Berne.\u00a0Garwood has been a volunteer with United Way for more than six years, starting out as a member of the Executive Committee, then moving to board treasurer, 2010 Day of Caring chair, and campaign chair this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLorie comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience with United Way and is a committed volunteer,&#8221; said Executive Director Deb Russell. \u201cWe are grateful that First Bank of Berne allows their staff the time to participate with community organizations.
