One of the bills,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/115\/bills\/s1393\/BILLS-115s1393es.pdf\">S. 1393<\/a>, the Jobs for Our Heroes Act, expands the ability to\u00a0obtain\u00a0a Commercial Driver\u2019s License (CDL) in a streamlined manner to reservists and active duty members of the military. Veterans had been granted this streamlined status under the Fixing America\u2019s\u00a0Surface\u00a0Transportation (FAST) Act.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Latta voted to pass\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/115\/bills\/hr4323\/BILLS-115hr4323eh.pdf\">H.R. 4323<\/a>, the Supporting Veterans in STEM Careers Act, which will expand veterans\u2019\u00a0jobs and educational opportunities in the scientific field. The bill would update the National Science Foundation Noyce\u00a0Teacher Scholarship program,\u00a0fellowship program, and cyber grant programs to include outreach to veterans. Additionally, the bill would have the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy study how to increase veteran participation in STEM career fields.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur nation\u2019s veterans, reservists, and active duty military members have served and continue to serve our nation with honor,\u201d said Latta. \u201cIt\u2019s important that the government doesn\u2019t make it difficult for them to use the skills they developed while serving to pursue employment outside of the military.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s making it easier to obtain a CDL or lowering barriers to enter the STEM fields, these bills will help provide more economic opportunities for those that serve,\u201d\u00a0Latta added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Submitted information WASHINGTON, D.C.\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) joined his colleagues in supporting a pair of bills to help veterans and reservists find employment.
