Brake Jr. , 94, of Van Wert, passed away at 9:11 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_97308\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-97308\" style=\"width: 275px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-97308\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Kenneth-Brake-obit-photo-1-2018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"423\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-97308\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Kenneth M. Brake Jr.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He was born November 17, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of Kenneth M.\u00a0and\u00a0 Bessie Mae (Lou) Brake Sr. who both preceded him in death.\u00a0On November 7, 1947, he married the former Dorothy Allemeir and she died December 16, 1997.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8711\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/American-Flag-for-obituaries-6-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"66\" \/>Survivors include a son, Larry Lee (Colleen) Brake of Spokane, Washington, and a daughter, Kendra Rider of Van Wert.\u00a0Also surviving are six grandchildren, Tracey, Trisha, Casey, Erin, Kiley and Amber; and six great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>A son, Roger Brake, also preceded him in death.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Brake was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years.\u00a0Following that, he was employed at Wee Care Day Care Center.\u00a0He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a life member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert, and a member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Van Wert County.\u00a0He enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funeral services, including military honors rendered by Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 11, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Ron Lumm officiating.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The family will receive visitors from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, at the funeral home.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preferred memorials: Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.<\/p>\n<p>Condolences may be expressed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bricknerfuneralhome.com\">www.bricknerfuneralhome.com<\/a> or emailed to <a href=\"mailto:bricknerfuneralhome@bright.net\">bricknerfuneralhome@bright.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenneth M.
