{"id":97903,"date":"2018-01-24T08:03:39","date_gmt":"2018-01-24T13:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=97903"},"modified":"2018-01-24T08:03:39","modified_gmt":"2018-01-24T13:03:39","slug":"cougars-down-kalida-for-3rd-straight-w","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2018\/01\/24\/cougars-down-kalida-for-3rd-straight-w\/","title":{"rendered":"Cougars down Kalida for 3rd straight &#8216;W&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Van Wert independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n<p>KALIDA &#8212; Van Wert used strong defense and outstanding free throw shooting to defeat the host Kalida Wildcats 54-40 on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>The win was the third straight for Van Wert (6-7) and it snapped Kalida\u2019s (11-3) nine game winning streak.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-96354\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/VanWertLogoI-e1513167235801.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Cougars held Kalida to nine points in the first and fourth quarters, and the Wildcats were just 14 of 46 (30 percent) from the floor, while committing 15 turnovers.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Van Wert converted 16 of 17 (94 percent) free throws, and shot 17 of 46 (40 percent) from the floor.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars held a 10-9 advantage after one quarter, but Kalida led 21-19 at haltime. Van Wert outscored the Wildcats 18-10 in the third quarter and 12-9 in the final period.<\/p>\n<p>Jacoby Kelly led the Cougars with 16 points, six assists and five rebounds.
