{"id":97995,"date":"2018-01-26T09:10:52","date_gmt":"2018-01-26T14:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=97995"},"modified":"2018-01-26T09:10:52","modified_gmt":"2018-01-26T14:10:52","slug":"niswongers-donate-10000-to-ywca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2018\/01\/26\/niswongers-donate-10000-to-ywca\/","title":{"rendered":"Niswongers donate $10,000 to YWCA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nikki Niswonger continued the Niswongers\u2019 philanthropy to the Van Wert community with a $10,000 donation to the YWCA of Van Wert County.<\/p>\n<p>Niswonger talked about the activities she participated in at the YW as a young girl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrowing up in Van Wert as a young girl included many visits to the YWCA,\u201d she noted. \u201cI learned to swim, tap dance, and square dance; I joined friends for skating parties, basketball, and day camps. When in junior high school, monthly dances were the highlight of the early teen social scene \u2026 my first formal dance was the winter Snowball in the gym at the Y.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_97996\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-97996\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-97996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Nikki-Niswonger-donation-to-YWCA-1-2018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"353\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-97996\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Nikki Niswonger (second from left) is shown with (from the left) United Way Executive Director Vicki Smith, YWCA Executive Director Kimberly Laudick, and Jamie Evans, YWCA director of housing.<\/strong> <em>Dave Mosier\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Niswonger, who now lives in Greenville, Tennessee, with her husband, Scott, also said she recalled fundraising projects to buy equipment for the YWCA as a member of Y-Teens group, as well as time spent cleaning the YWCA\u2019s kitchen and apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Niswonger also said her widowed grandmother had also lived at the YWCA for a few months after moving to Van Wert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur family was given the chance to make special memories cooking in the kitchen and just visiting her in her apartment,\u201d Niswonger remembered. \u201cI, like so many women, am the beneficiary of the YWCA\u2019s dedicated commitment to improve our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Niswonger noted that, while times have changed in Van Wert, the YWCA continues to serve the changing needs of the community with its domestic violence and homeless programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is hard to imagine that now in Van Wert there is a need for safe havens for victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the victims of this plague walk through the doors of our YWCA regularly.
