{"id":99354,"date":"2018-03-02T07:38:58","date_gmt":"2018-03-02T12:38:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=99354"},"modified":"2018-03-02T07:41:13","modified_gmt":"2018-03-02T12:41:13","slug":"lady-knights-to-play-for-district-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2018\/03\/02\/lady-knights-to-play-for-district-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Knights to play for district title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n<p>ELIDA &#8212; Crestview survived a late fourth quarter surge by Coldwater, then outscored the Lady Cavaliers 15-4 in overtime to win 69-58 in the Division III district semifinals at Elida on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>Along with avenging a 60-43 regular season loss to Coldwater, the victory extended Crestview\u2019s winning streak to 13 and it advanced the Lady Knights to Saturday\u2019s district championship game against No. 1 seed Ottawa-Glandorf (22-2). The Lady Titans defeated Spencerville 64-27.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_99358\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99358\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-99358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/LexiGregory3-2-18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"394\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-99358\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Lexi Gregory drives toward the basket against Coldwater. Gregory finished with 13 points.<\/strong><em> Photo by Wyatt Richardson for the Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Free throws by Lyvia Black put Crestview (19-6) up 54-49 with 17.4 seconds left in regulation, but Coldwater (19-6) rallied with two free throws by Lauren Bruns and a triple by Kourtney Diller that tied the game. Crestview turned the ball over after Diller\u2019s three pointer, but the Lady Cavaliers missed a potential game winning shot and the game went to overtime.<\/p>\n<p>From there, Paige Motycka hit eight free throws and a bucket, Olivia Cunningham connected from the floor and Black hit a foul shot and a basket. Meanwhile, Crestview\u2019s defense held Coldwater to a single basket and two foul shots in the extra session.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo doubt about it, our team defense was great tonight,\u201d Crestview head coach Mark Gregory said. \u201cI can\u2019t say enough about our team. We battled all night long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crestview led 12-8 after the first quarter then began the second period with a 12-2 run with a basket by Black, treys by Bailey Gregory and Lexi Gregory, a free throw by Motycka and a triple by Black. However, Coldwater answered with a 9-2 run to close the quarter. Diller knocked down a three pointer, Lauren Gilliland hit two foul shots, and Katie Alig and Maura Hoying each hit baskets to close the gap to 25-19 at halftime.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Cavaliers opened the third quarter with 10-4 run that tied the game at 29, but Crestview outscored Coldwater 11-5 to finish the period. Motycka hit back-to-back buckets, (Lexi) Gregory and Black hit triples and Motycka converted two free throws with no time left on the clock to give the Lady Knights a 40-34 lead entering the fourth quarter. Motycka went on to finish with a game high 26 points, Black tallied 16 and Gregory scored 13.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Coldwater outscored Crestview 20-14 in the final period and tied the game on five occasions, but never led in the quarter or the entire game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was huge,\u201d Gregory said. \u201cI thought every time Coldwater would come back, we had an answer.
