Local Lookin’ Out Clubs Drive Home Sobering Message to Students
The Erie Insurance Lookin’ Out Safety Bug will visit four area high schools during the coming week. The Safety Bug will appear at Crestview High School on April 26, Antwerp High School on April 27, Van Wert High School on April 28, and Lincolnview High School on April 29. All events will take place in the respective school parking lots. The Lookin’ Out Safety Bug is a custom engineered Volkswagen Beetle that allows drivers the real life experience of driving while impaired, without the real life risk. Licensed drivers experience the loss of control an individual would realize if attempting to operate an automobile while in an impaired state. Officers from Ohio State Highway Patrol will also be on hand to talk to students at the event.
The Lookin’ Out Safety Bug is just one aspect of the Erie Insurance Lookin’ Out program, a safe teen driving initiative in which positive messages are created by students for their friends. Lookin’ Out seeks to educate young drivers and save lives. The Lookin’ Out committees at each school have been working with their Erie Insurance Agent Advisor, Krista Schlemmer, of the Leland Smith Insurance Agency, to help educate their peers about the dangers teens face on the road. The Lookin’ Out Safety Bug is operated by the Pennsylvania DUI Association in partnership with Erie Insurance.

While studying plate tectonics in fourth-grade science, students enjoy using graham crackers and frosting to represent earth’s plates and melted rock. The experiment simulates the movements the earth makes to create earthquakes, volcanoes, and the building of mountains.
Jr. High yearbooks, Out of the Blue (and Gold), will be on sale throughout April. Checks can be made payable to Lincolnview Local Schools in the amount of 16.50 and given to Mrs. Sheets or Mrs. Dowdy. Cash will also be accepted. Yearbooks will be delivered at the start of next school year.
