Track teams place 4th at invitational

Lincolnview Elementary students recently participated in an online safety poster contest to help raise awareness of dangers on the internet. Congratulations to the junior high boys’ and girls’ track teams as they both placed fourth at the Parkway Invitational meet last Saturday.  The boys scored 105 points and the girls scored 99 points.

Highlights of the meet included Hunter Blankemeyer finishing first in the 110 meter hurdles (18.02) and the high jump, as well as finishing second place in the 200 meter hurdles (29,96).  Hunter’s jump of 5’2” tied the meet record.  In the pole vault, Carter Gorman (7’6”) placed third, Ryan Jacomet (6’6”) was fourth, and Logan Steele (6’)was fifth.  John Mason placed fourth in the high jump (4’10”) and was part of the third place 4×400 relay team of Farmer, Schmersal, Mason and Whitaker (4:18.78).  Colin Burns came away with a fourth place in the mile (5:42.95) and sixth place in the 800 meter run (2:38.60).  Skyler Whitaker was sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:03.54) and the 4×200 relay team of Schmersal, Temen, Frost and McMaster took fifth place (1:55.34).

Highlights for the girls’ team included first place finishes for Anna Gorman in the mile (6:05.9) and Ashton Bowersock in the 800 meter run (2:49).  Ashton also took third place in the 400 meter dash (1:08) and both girls were part of the 4×400 relay team (5:00.61)of Wendel, Rhoades, Bowersock and Gorman that placed third.  Alyssa Matthews finished second in the shot put (30’11.75”) as well as sixth in the discus event (54’1/2”).  Brooke Thatcher came away with fourth place in the 100 hurdles (19.51) and the 4×100 relay team of Cowling, Wendel, Thatcher and Bigham (1:00.77) placed fifth. The next invitational meet is April 19 at Wayne Trace.

Seniors are advised to watch scholarship deadlines, many of which are fast approaching.
