Superheroes for Survivors

Lincolnview Elementary participated in their annual Mini Relay for Life last week. As part of the fundraiser, the students who donated the most money toward the teacher of their choice got to see them dress up as a superhero at last Friday’s assembly. The lucky winners were Mrs. Lipp - "The Lippinator"(right), and Mrs. Wendel as "Gloss Girl" (left). (Photo submitted.)

The Lincolnview Mini Relay for Life was held the week of April 16-20 ending with the Mini Relay Walk on the track on Friday. The students learned about cancer prevention and healthy living as they participated in daily activities such as “Sock it to Cancer” and “Shade out Cancer.”

This year’s theme was “Superheroes for Survivors” and the class that raised the most funds towards Relay for Life got to see their teacher dress up as a superhero with the second place teacher dressing as the sidekick. Another part of this year’s relay was “Take a Bite out of Cancer”  where the students cheered on their teachers in a cupcake eating competition during the school wide assembly and the “Wall of Fame” where students could place stars in honor and memory of loved ones affected by cancer.

The students raised over $2700 towards Team Lincolnview. Thanks to all the kids, parents and staff for their help in making this year’s Mini Relay a success and raising funds towards finding a cure!

Congratulations to freshman Dalton Hines, who recently pitched a no hitter for the Junior Varsity Lancer Baseball team in a 15-0 victory over the Perry Commodores.  Dalton struck out 12 and only walked one during the five inning run rule game.  In the same game, Tyler Lovett hit the first home run over the fence in the history of the new Lincolnview baseball field.

Also congratulations to eighth graders Louis Crow and Maddie Jones for being named winners in the Elks Americanism contest. They will be recognized at the Youth Day breakfast on May 8.
