Snowball fights and spelling bees

Have you ever wanted to have a snowball fight in the classroom? Well, if you were in Matt Alessandrini’s third grade spelling class, you could do just that! Alessandrini’s class uses formative assessment to track student learning. After papers are crumpled up and thrown, they are then collected randomly and checked for accuracy and then returned to the original person. This assures the students that their tests will never be graded by the same person twice and that they know how they are doing at that exact moment. Ready. Aim. Fire!
The Lincolnview Junior High School recently completed its Spelling Bee selecting representatives for the Van Wert County Spelling Bee. Braxten Robey won the Spelling Bee for the eighth grade and for the junior high. Carly Wendel won the Spelling Bee for seventh grade and was runner-up for the junior high. Both students will represent Lincolnview at the Van Wert County Spelling Bee on Feb. 3.
