Christmas programs

On Dec. 17, 3rd grade students performed a few selections from their Christmas program for the students at Wee Care Day Care and the residents and staff at Vancrest and the Van Wert Manor. The students were led by music director Jennifer Slusher and the third grade teachers: Matt Alessandrini, Glenn Hicks and June Young. The students prepared gifts and cards for the residents and presented candy canes to the kids. (Photo submitted.)

Lincolnview Jr. High will be represented at the Van Wert County Spelling Bee on Feb. 7 by 8th grader Zania Hasty and 7th grader Lainie Jones.  Both girls were the winners of their class spelling bee after making it to that competition via several rounds of in- class bees.

Each of them will compete at the county level in February and could advance to the regionalbee in March, which takes place in Fort Wayne, Ind. Should either of the girls not be able to attend the county bee, runner-up contestants, Austin Murphy (8th grade) and Frankie Carey (7thgrade), will spell in their absence.

Even though Christmas is over, we would still like to recognize the following students for presenting an excellent program. The 2nd and 3rd grade students presented "The Reindeer Whisperer” by Teresa Jennings on Dec. 13 in the Lincolnview gym. The students were led by music educator Jennifer Slusher and performed to a packed house. The program included a musical drama that featured Santa and Mrs. Claus, elves, reindeer and Cesar Salad (the Reindeer whisperer). Traditional holiday music and a sing along were also included for everyone present. (Photo submitted.)

The sophomore class has been very responsible in their gym clean up duty after the boys’ home basketball games and it is very much appreciated.  The class is earning money to go toward prom necessities for next year.  Anyone who does not help at their assigned game will be charged $10 class dues.  Please see Mrs. Dowdy ahead of time if you have a schedule conflict.     This week’s clean-up crew for Friday night is:  Jared Doner, Troy Thompson, Tyler Stewart, Curtis Moore, Devi May, Breana Blair, Logan Kraner, and Dylan Redmon. Clean-up crew for Saturday night’s game is:  Tiffiny West, Austin Hamel, Jasmine Stephey, Christian Cummings, Bryan Gray, Alexis Moellering, Zak Karnehm, and Daniel Sanderson.

The class has submitted a few designs for class t-shirts and the class officers have begun to organize for the Valentine Flower Sale as well.  The sale will take place Jan. 28 to Feb. 8.  Flowers may be purchased at lunch or during the home basketball games on Feb. 2 and 8.  The flowers will be delivered to students on Feb. 14 during first period.

The athletic department would like to remind all senior athletes and their parents that this Saturday, Jan. 19 will be senior night at the boys’ basketball game against Antwerp.
