6:10 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 30 in Ridge Township for a report of reckless driving. The suspected vehicle then crashed west of Lincoln Highway near the Gilliland Road overpass. A 2015 Volkswagen Passat driven by Victor Colon Velez of Chicago was driving westbound on U.S. 30 when it left the roadway, striking a guardrail, then traveled across the lanes of travel and came to rest in the median. The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence and failure to control. He was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility. No injury was reported.

6:58 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Glenmore Road in Liberty Township for an automated message of a possible crash. No accident was located.

7:20 p.m. – Deputies, along with Ohio City Fire and EMS, Van Wert Fire and Lutheran Air, responded to an area of Ohio 118 in Pleasant Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash. A 2017 Hyundai Elantra driven by Michael Sparrow of Holland, Ohio, was driving northbound in the southbound lane on Ohio 118 north of Hoghe Road.  A 2000 Freightliner motorhome driven by Adam Yoder of Kalamazoo, Michigan, was driving southbound and swerved into the northbound lane to avoid the collision. Sparrow’s vehicle struck a trailer being pulled by Yoder, then went off the west side of the roadway and rolled onto the passenger side, coming to rest. Sparrow was transported by Lutheran Air and was issued a traffic citation for driving under suspension and for a marked-lane violation. No injuries were reported by the occupants Yoder’s rig.

8:44 p.m. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert Municipal Court for failure to comply. Landon J. Clifton, 40, of Van Wert was being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

9:05 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Monmouth Road in Harrison Township for a complaint of harassment.

9:19 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Pettit Street in the Village of Convoy for a complaint of subjects on two mopeds being reckless and not stopping at the stop sign.

11:45 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 224 in Pleasant Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a deer.

On 7-20-2026 – officers were sent to the area of N. Scott and E. 3rd St. for a small child riding a big wheel in the roadway.

On 7-20-2026 – officers were dispatched to the 100 block of E. 12th St. for a possible domestic disturbance.

On 7-21-2026 – officers spoke with a female who reported that a family member was visiting her elderly father against her wishes. The female reported that the family member had previously stolen from her father and is abusive. Officers explained the process to obtain a protection order.

On 7-21-2026 – officers responded to a business in the 900 block of E. 5th St. after a customer called requesting police assistance due to being unhappy with service.

On 7-22-2026 – officers spoke with a sergeant at the Lima Police Department who requested assistance in looking for a runaway/missing juvenile from Lima. Officers were advised that the juvenile had been at a business in Delphos.

On 7-22-2026 – officers were sent to the 1300 block of Hedrick St. to investigate an abandoned 911 call.

On 7-23-2026 – officers spoke with a male in the 800 block of Skinner St. who requested that his sister be criminally trespassed from his property.

On 7-23-2026 – officers were dispatched to the area of E. 5th and N. Main streets to look for a male who was reportedly mistreating his dog.

On 7-24-2026 – officers were sent to the 200 block of W. Clime St. for an unwanted guest complaint.

On 7-24-2026 – officers received a complaint of a male and a female inside of a vehicle in the 300 block of S. Pierce St. possibly using drugs. Officers spoke with the male and female but did not find anything illegal.

On 7-25-2026 – officers were dispatched to a business in the 1400 block of E. 5th St. for a suspicious male walking around a building on the property.

On 7-25-2026 – officers responded to a domestic violence complaint in the 400 block of Moxie Lane. Officers spoke with a female and two males involved in the incident. After investigating the incident officers found probable cause to arrest one male, Anthony Doll, 53, of Texas, for domestic violence and assault.

On 7-26-2026 – officers spoke with a female in the 600 block of Davis St. who reported that a neighbor’s dog came to her property and attacked her dog. A report was taken and will be forwarded to the Van Wert County Dog Warden.

Sunday, July 19 – a welfare check was conducted on a distraught male in the 600 block of Burt St.

Sunday, July 19 – officers were dispatched to the area of Lincoln Highway and Stripe Rd. after a single vehicle crash. While enroute, it was learned the driver might be unconscious. Upon arrival, it was discovered a white Lexus SUV was traveling westbound on Lincoln Highway and entered the city limits. The SUV was reported to have veered into the oncoming lane of travel and left the roadway, striking a tree. The driver, Doris Jones, 74, of Lima was later pronounced dead at OhioHealth Van Wert Hospital. A medical issue caused her death.

A 2020 Chevrolet Bolt driven by Rachel Griffiths of Paulding was traveling southbound on U.S. 127 approaching the roundabout at U.S. Route 224. She failed to yield to a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Kordane Thomas of Hoaglin Township, who was westbound on U.S. 224 and was navigating around the roundabout. No injuries were reported.
