A 2018 Ford Focus driven by Riley Mittie of Elida was traveling southwest on Ohio 49 near Piqua Road. Mittie was approaching a curved roadway and failed to acknowledge the curve of Ohio 49, causing the car to go off the right side of the roadway, strike a utility pole and multiple trees. The vehicle came to a rest in a wooded area between Ohio 49 and Piqua Road. Mittie was issued a citation for failure to control.

It was reported that while driving on Willshire Eastern Road, the victim and suspect had an argument, and the victim was struck in the face by the suspect. Brandon Michael Clark, 30, of Van Wert, has been charged with one count of first degree misdemeanor assault and one count of fourth degree misdemeanor illegal use of possession of drug paraphernalia. Clark is scheduled to appear in Van Wert Municipal Court on June 25.
