2:03 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Elm Sugar Road in Hoaglin Township to check an abandoned 911 call.

8:14 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Ohio 118 in Liberty Township to investigate a complaint of theft.

9:54 a.m. – Dispatched Middle Point EMS to a residence on Griswold Street in the village of Middle Point for a subject with a fast pulse and felling dizzy.

12:35 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Walcott Street in the village of Willshire for a report of a motor vehicle crash. A semi-truck was carrying an oversized load of construction equipment. The equipment on the
trailer caught a utility line. The utility line and several utility poles were brought down in the incident. The vehicle was a 2005 International 8600 driven by Jerry Lee Gladman of Springfield, Ohio. A second semi-truck
got tangled in the utility wires and brought down additional utility poles. That vehicle was a 2001 Kenworth W900 driven by Darius Clint Walker of Burlington, North Carolina. No injuries were reported in the incident.

1:52 p.m. – Dispatched Ohio City EMS to a residence on Jefferson Street in the village of Ohio City for a subject who was ill.

3:47 p.m. – Deputies to a report for a motor vehicle crash that occurred in the parking lot of Lincolnview Schools. No injuries were reported.

9:37 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residential alarm on John Brown Road in Pleasant Township.

10:06 p.m. – Dispatched Middle Point EMS to a residence on Walnut Street in the village of Middle Point for a subject with possible carbon monoxide poisoning.

Van Wert Police 

Sunday, January 22 – received a report of a menacing incident that occurred in the 600 block of State St. 

Sunday, January 22 – arrested Terry Lee Plaugher, 18, of Van Wert on a warrant out of Van Wert Municipal Court. The arrest was made in the 500 block of E. Central Ave. 

Monday, January 23 – conducted a welfare check for a person in crisis in the 300 block of S. Walnut St. The person was taken to the Van Wert Health ER for a mental health evaluation. 

Tuesday, January 24 – a S. Walnut St. resident reported an incident of telephone harassment. No charges were filed. 

Tuesday, January 24 – an item suspected of being a type of drug was found in the 500 block of Bonniewitz Ave and was turned over to the police department. 

Tuesday, January 24 – McDonald’s at Towne Center reported a fake $100 bill had been passed at the restaurant.

Thursday, January 26 – a fraud incident was reported in the 100 block of South Ave.

Thursday, January 26 – received a report of an assault that occurred in the 1100 block of Kear Rd. 

Thursday, January 26 – arrested Jeffery A. Keller of Van Wert on a warrant out of Van Wert Municipal Court while at the intersection of W. Ervin Rd. and Pratt St. 

Thursday, January 26 – received a call of an assault that occurred at the intersection of S. Washington St. and E. Ervin Rd. 

Friday, January 28 – arrested Austin Pohlman of Delphos for operating a vehicle after underage consumption near the intersection of Fox Rd. and S. Washington St. 

Friday, January 28 – received a report of an attempted theft at Walmart. 

Friday, January 28 – arrested Brandon L. Coil, 33, of Convoy for OVI following a traffic stop in the 200 block of E. Raymond St. 

Friday, January 28 – a city resident reported someone gained access to her personal information and tried to file a fraudulent tax return online. 

Sunday, January 29 – a theft was reported in the 900 block of E. Main St.

Friday January 27, 2023  

4:37 a.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a residence on Shawnee Drive in the City of Van Wert for a subject who fell.  

9:06 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Mendon Road in Ridge Township for a vehicle that slid off the roadway. No damage or injuries reported.  

10:50 a.m. – Dog Warden responded to a location on South Shannon Street to check the welfare of a dog that was locked in a vehicle.  

11:35 a.m. – Dog Warden responded to an area in the City of Delphos to pick up a stray dog.  

11:48 a.m. – Deputies arrested Jamal N. Pirani, 41, of Van Wert, for making terroristic threats, a felony of the third Degree. The arrest was the result of an investigation by deputies involving threatening statements made by Pirani toward Van Wert police officers. Deputies located Pirani in his vehicle at a local business in Van Wert, where Pirani was taken into custody without incident. Pirani was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility where he is being held until arraignment in Van Wert Municipal Court.  

1:51 p.m. – Deputies made contact with a resident from Lincoln Highway in Pleasant Township for a complaint of harassment.  

5:12 p.m. – Deputies responded to a location on South Shannon Street in the city of Van Wert to assist a subject locked out of their vehicle.  

8:49 p.m. – Dispatched Wren EMS to a residence on Greet Street in the village of Willshire for a subject who was feeling lightheaded.  

11:10 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Wren Landeck Road in Liberty Township for a report of subjects possibly trespassing on private property. 

Saturday January 28, 2023  

4:22 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Upperman Road in Washington Township for suspicious activity.  

4:39 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 30 in Ridge Township on a complaint of reckless operation and a possible intoxicated driver.  

9:57 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Jonestown Road in York Township to assist a subject locked out of their vehicle.  

11:34 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Ohio 116 in Jennings Township after receiving an abandoned 911 call.  

12:58 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of East Tully Street in the village of Convoy on a complaint of a vehicle driving around with loud music.  

2:06 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Feasby Wisener Road in Union Township on a complaint of credit card fraud.

3:57 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 127 in Liberty Township for a disabled vehicle partially in the roadway.

8:08 a.m. – Dog Warden responded to an area of Carmean Street in village of Ohio City for a loose dog.

11:44 a.m. – Deputies along with Ohio City Fire & EMS responded to a motor vehicle crash on Ohio 118 in Liberty Township. A 2015 Volvo driven by Justin Alton Duval of Fort Wayne was southbound on 118 when he slowed to turn onto Ohio City Venedocia Road. The car went off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole and overturned. He refused medical transport.

2:25 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of State Road in Washington Township for a vehicle that slid off the roadway. No damage or injuries reported.

2:43 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Liberty Union Road in Liberty Township for a vehicle that slid off the roadway. No damage or injuries reported.

3:33 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Wetzel Road in Union Township for a motor vehicle crash. A 2001 Saturn driven by Amy Salinas of Van Wert was northbound on US 127 and slowed to turn east on Wetzel Rd. The car slid on the snow covered roadway and went off right side of road then struck a snow pile on the north side of Wetzel Rd and also struck a stop sign, breaking it off. The car was pulled from snow pile and was able to be driven away. No injuries were reported.

1:54 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Lincoln Highway in Washington Township to assist a motorist who ran out of gas.  

7:06 a.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a residence on Rosemont Drive in the city of Van Wert for a subject having difficulty breathing.  

8:00 a.m. – Dog Warden responded to a location on George Street in the city of Van Wert to check the welfare of a dog.  

8:30 a.m. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert County Common Pleas Court for a bond violation. Anthony Matthew Oliver, 28, is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.  

8:45 a.m. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Allen County Indiana for felony domestic battery resulting in bodily injury. Dashawn Dutreal Jones, 33, of Fort Wayne is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility on previous local charges.  

11:57 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Ohio 49 in Harrison Township for a semi-truck that partially slid off the roadway. No damage or injuries were reported.  

1:02 p.m. – Deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on U.S. 30 near Lare Road in Tully Township. A 2007 Pontiac G6 driven by Jason Bullinger of Convoy was traveling westbound on US 30, almost to Lare Road, when he lost control of his vehicle and went off the left side of the roadway and stuck a “Wrong Way” sign before going into the median. The car sustained disabling damage from striking the sign and had to be towed from the scene by 2A’s Towing. Bullinger advised he got some small glass pieces in his hand from the windshield breaking, however, did not require medical treatment at the scene. 

1:50 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Schumm Road in Willshire Township for a vehicle that slid off the roadway. No damage or injuries were reported.  

2:00 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Dutch John Road in Union Township for a vehicle that slid off the roadway. No Damage or injuries were reported.  

2:21 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Short Street in the village of Ohio City to investigate a complaint of telecommunications harassment. 

2:51 p.m. – Dispatched Ohio City EMS to a residence on Venedocia St. Mary’s Road in York Township for a possible stroke.

4:15 a.m. – Deputies responded to a location in the village of Ohio City to investigate a report of an open door.

5:15 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 30 in Union Township to check an abandoned 911 call.

5:21 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Lincoln Highway in Pleasant Township to investigate a report of domestic violence. Anthony Matthew Oliver, 28, of 10886 No. 6 Lincoln Highway was arrested and transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility for domestic violence, a fourth degree felony, and possession of controlled substances, a fifth degree felony. Oliver also had an outstanding warrant issued by Van Wert Municipal Court for criminal mischief, a third degree misdemeanor.

6:47 a.m. – Dispatched Wren EMS to a residence on Glenmore Road in Willshire Township for a subject having difficulty breathing.

8:10 a.m. – Dog Warden responded to an area in the city of Van Wert on a complaint of subjects failing to confine their dog.

9:31 a.m. – Dog Warden responded to an area of Old Tile Factory Road in Pleasant Township on a complaint of two loose dogs.

11:24 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 224 in Hoaglin Township for an occupied disabled vehicle.

2:19 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Lincoln Highway in Pleasant Township to investigate a report of a disturbance. Gavin Joseph Delgado, 20, of 10886 Lincoln Highway Apartment No. 5 ,Van Wert was arrested and transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility. Delgado was charged with criminal damaging/endangering, a second degree misdemeanor and disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor.

7:43 a.m. – Dispatched Ohio City Fire back to the barn fire on Richey Road in Liberty Township.

8:45 a.m. – Deputies responded to a private property motor vehicle crash at a location in Washington Township. No Injuries were reported.

9:49 a.m. – Deputies along with Middle Point Fire & EMS responded to a motor vehicle crash on Jennings Delphos Road in Washington Township. A passenger van belonging to Mercer Residential Services slid off the roadway into a field. Passengers in the vehicle were transported to the hospital for evaluation per company policy. The van was a 2015 Ram 1500 driven by Francis Carmain of Mendon.

12:55 p.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a location on West Main Street in the City of Van Wert for a subject who fell.

5:07 p.m. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert Municipal Court for failure to appear. Moise Byiringiro, 29, of Dayton is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

6:31 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 224 near Dull Robinson Road in Pleasant Township for the report of a semi-truck blocking the roadway.

7:08 p.m. – Deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on Ohio 637 near Hessian Road in Jackson Township. The driver, Andrew Ross of Van Wert was traveling northbound on 637 just South of Hessian Road when his 2017 Kia Sportage slid off of the right side of the roadway into a ditch, causing minor damage. Ross stated that there was a larger SUV taking up both lanes of the road way, traveling southbound, towards him, causing him to serve to avoid a collision.

9:31 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on East Tully Street in the village of Convoy for a dispute between a tenant and landlord.

11:06 p.m. – Deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on U.S. 30 in Ridge Township. A vehicle slid off the roadway while trying to pass. No injuries were reported. No other details are available at this time.

Sunday, January 15 – received a report of a theft in the 500 block of S. Chestnut St.

Sunday, January 15 – a woman reported being the victim of theft by deception though an online scam in which a house was being offered for rent on Facebook.

Monday, January 16 – a resident came to the police station to speak with an officer about menacing.

Tuesday, January 17 – an incident of telephone harassment was reported in the 400 block of E. Sycamore St.

Tuesday, January 17 – the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gary Smith on a warrant for failure to appear, related to an original charge of criminal trespassing. He was served with a copy of the warrant while at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

Wednesday, January 18 – officers were dispatched to the 700 block of E. Main St. for a dispute.

Wednesday, January 18 – Van Wert Elementary School reported a juvenile who was mentally distraught. The juvenile was provided treatment by Westwood Behavioral Health.

Wednesday, January 18 – the Treasurer’s Office for Van Wert City Schools reported receiving a counterfeit bill they believed was taken at a recent basketball game.

Thursday, January 19 – received a report of thefts from the Salvation Army Thrift Shop on January 18 and 19.

Thursday, January 19 – an incident of menacing was reported by a staff member at Burger King. The suspect’s vehicle was located in a private drive in the 300 block of N. Cherry St. Contact was made and police arrested Leonard Delong for OVI, obstructing official business and driving with no operator’s license.

Friday, January 20 – An Ervin Rd. resident reported identity/credit card fraud.

Friday, January 20 – A male in the 1000 block of E. Main St. was reported to be mentally distraught.

Friday, January 20 – a city resident reported an incident of menacing but did not want charges pursued.

Saturday, January 21 – received a report of an unruly juvenile in the 400 block of S. Chestnut St.

Sunday, January 22 – arrested Marcus Leonard Burns, 27, of Van Wert for disorderly conduct following an incident in the 900 block of Hughes St.

12:53 a.m. – Dispatched Middle Point EMS to a location on Lincoln Highway in Ridge Township for a subject with high blood pressure.

6:25 a.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to an area of Glenn Street in the City of Van Wert for a juvenile that was struck by a semi-truck.

7:59 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Koch Street in the village of Ohio City to investigate an abandoned 911 call.

10:02 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on North Market Street to assist a subject locked out of their vehicle.

10:07 a.m. – Dispatched Ohio City EMS to a residence on Willshire Ohio City Road in Liberty Township for a subject not feeling well.

2:04 p.m. – Dispatched Wren EMS and Van Wert EMS to a residence on South Street in the Village of Willshire for a juvenile having a seizure.

3:07 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on North Main Street in the Village of Convoy to conduct a welfare check on subject.

4:26 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on West Jackson Street in the village of Wren after receiving a report of gunshots being fired. The incident began from an ongoing dispute and harassment. No injuries were reported in the incident, which remains under investigation. Miguel Valle Jr., 29, of 105 ½ State Street in Wren was taken into custody and transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility. He was charged with aggravated menacing, a first degree misdemeanor, and will make an appearance in Van Wert Municipal Court.

4:31 p.m. – Deputies responded to a location in the city of Van Wert to assist a subject locked out of their vehicle.

5:27 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Ringwald Road in Ridge Township to investigate a complaint of domestic violence.

Thursday January 19, 2023 

8:37 a.m. – Deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on Hoaglin Center Road in Ridge Township. A 2014 Chevrolet Traverse driven by a juvenile was northbound on Hoaglin Center Road around 8:45 p.m. the previous evening. The went off the right side of the roadway causing damage to the front right of the unit. The vehicle continued and came back onto the roadway and then went off the left side of the road and struck an AEP utility pole with the left rear tire. The vehicle was pulled into the yard in the 77 block of Hoaglin Center Road. The driver left the scene not reporting the crash. On Thursday, the owner of the house called about the vehicle and to see if the crash was reported.

10:38 a.m. – Deputies responded to a location in the City of Van Wert to assist a subject locked out of their vehicle. 

12:20 p.m. – Deputies spoke to a resident from Liberty Union Road in Pleasant Township to take a complaint of fraud. 

1:58 p.m. – Deputies responded to a location on Liberty Union Road in Pleasant Township to assist a subject locked out of their vehicle. 

3:13 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Ohio 81 in Willshire Township to pick up a stray dog. 

3:14 p.m. – Dispatched Ohio City EMS to a residence on Ball Road in the village of Ohio City for a subject who fell. 

5:15 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Wren Landeck Road in York Township to investigate a domestic incident. 

7:07 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Monmouth Road in Harrison Township to conduct a welfare check on a subject family was unable to make contact with. 

9:35 p.m. – Dispatched Middle Point EMS to a location on Lincoln Highway in Ridge Township for a subject with back pain. 

10:12 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Dustman Road in Pleasant Township to take a complaint of harassment. 

10:29 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Sprague Street in the village of Willshire to check the welfare of a subject in mental distress.
